BROOKLYN, Mich. -- NASCAR announced a new rule Friday governing driver behavior under caution in the wake of the incident in which Tony Stewart struck and killed Kevin Ward Jr.
Social Politics - 101: It appears that the stay-in-your-car rule is about as far as NASCAR is willing to go at this point. So we'll have to wait to see if any sponsorship deal asks that their paid driver not put them self, or another, in harms way while hobby-racing in between sponsored events. When was the last time you saw a MLB player pinch-hitting at his local neighborhood little league game? The dirt track event where Ward was killed was sanctioned as a NASCAR related event. So they had an obligation to protect Ward from emotional behavior (re: new rule, after the fact) ... but also from: you fill in the blank here... <> Added 08.16.14: No offense to those little league team players or dirt track drivers ... my point being ... pro-ball players don't show-up to play at a minor league game on their own now do they. If NASCAR wants to be the sport it claims to be, even Sprint drivers will not be in any more Nationwide series (or it's next sponsor's name) ... it messes with the points. Wouldn't be allowed to interfere with the Sprint Chase contest, so why degrade another series. I would like to see a better promotion of the Truck series racing. Even the Nationwide one. Both would fair better if we knew when either were racing - the time and the dates. As you were. My update is finished for this ...
